Early 2017 Events We’re Excited About (PLUS! A Special Offer From Gwyndows For You…)

This time in Austin is probably one of the best to get out of the house. It’s not pushing 100 degrees outside– in fact, it’s particularly beautiful this time of year. Plus, it’s those glorious few months before tourist season when we don’t have a million visitors in the streets looking for a live gig and free beer. Of course, just because it’s not peak tourist season doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do around town. Austin is full to the brim of fun events and great deals for friends and family to do together. Whether you’re looking for something wholesome to do on a Saturday afternoon or want to catch a raucous show in town for a limited time, we have a couple options for what to do in Austin in the following months.

Austin Humane Society’s 10th Annual Puppy Bowl

Yes, Texas is a football state… There is no denying that. But it’s also undeniably a dog town. We take being pup friendly pretty seriously around these parts, so while the crowds will be funneling into Houston for the big game, the Austin Humane Society is hosting it’s own Super Bowl extravaganza– The Puppy Bowl! This family-friendly event is free to attend and features food trucks, face painting, temporary tattoos, live music, games, and more! Adults will be able to enter a raffle for a 2016 Mazda MX-5 Sport Convertible and enjoy refreshments from local Austin breweries. And of course, puppies will be up for adoption wearing super cute jerseys and available at a discount price for the day. You can even bring your own precious pup to the event– granted they stay leashed and by your side outdoors for the event. Learn more about AHS’s Puppy Bowl and how to donate to the cause here.

When: February 4th, 12-3PM
Where: 124 W. Anderson Lane

Sh!t-Faced Shakespeare – Much Ado About Nothing

Shakespeare was a playwright of the people, so what’s more appropriate than a drunken rendition of one of his most beloved comedies featuring sloshed cast members? Sh!t-Faced Shakespeare is in Austin for the remainder of the season performing Much Ado About Nothing, a romantic comedy about mistaken identity and gender roles. The night of the performance, one of the cast members is randomly chosen to become, well, sh!t-faced before the show. The result is a mix of Bard classics and improvisation that spells a smashing-good time. Learn more about Sh!t-Faced Shakespeare here and get tickets to the next event at The North Door via Event Brite.

When: February 11th & March 9th, 8PM
Where: 501 Brushy St

Wrestling is back and better than ever. Mixing the fun and thrill of entertainment wrestling with comedy and visual art, Party World Wrasslin’ is the funnest wrestling league in Austin– and the events are free, can you believe it? Each event put on by PWR is an elaborate showcase set to a theme– this upcoming theme is a dystopian universe where beer and costumes will set us FREE. The show is located at 4th Tap Brewing Cooperative so you’re able to sample their excellent selection of craft beers including the Zephyr Pale Ale and Jim Crust’s Friendship Brew. Leave the kids at home for this one– material is not family-friendly.

When: March 11th, 6:30-11PM
Where: 10615 Metric Blvd

Brunch + Bowl at The Goodnight

Brunch is great, we should all do it… but it’s hard to argue that brunch is anything but a lazy endeavor. That is, unless you’re doing brunch at The Goodnight where activities abound. Every Sunday from 11 AM til 4 PM, you can enjoy The Goodnight’s brunch menu (including $1 mimosas!) as well as FREE bowling, billiards, and ping pong. There are also $100/hr air guitar lessons– because brunch is a lot of things, but serious is not one of them. While you bowl, bill, and sing, enjoy a stellar menu that can either be split for sharing (Honey Truffle Duck Pommes Frites, Chicken & Waffles) or savored solo (Lobster Benedict, Texas French Toast). It’s the funnest brunch in town, don’t miss it!

When: Every Sunday, 11AM-4PM
Where: 2700 W. Anderson Lane #101
