The 36th Annual Fall Pecan Street Festival

September 24th (11AM-10PM) & September 25th (11AM-8PM)

A little fun fact for the newbie Austinites: Sixth Street wasn’t always Sixth. Back when the city of Austin was first planned, the east-west streets were named after trees. Even though the streets were later renamed as numeric designations (as suggested by city planner Edwin Waller), The Pecan Street Festival honors the road’s, erm, roots.

Enjoy moseying down Sixth Street perusing the various vendors featuring everything from artisan snacks to Texas themed clothes and crafts. This family-friendly event also boasts live music and the occasional celebrity sighting (I see you over there, Dave Chappelle).

Naked Feast: Atlantis at The VORTEX Theater

September 17th (6PM-Midnight)

HEADS UP! This event is for ADULTS ONLY and not for the faint of heart!

Every years Austin’s Pioneering Alternative Theatre throws a “performance installation cocktail party” to benefit The VORTEX and keep independent art in East Austin. This year, the theme evokes and embodies “the mythos of one of the world’s most famous lost civilizations,” Atlantis.

So why is it called a Naked Feast? Artistic hor d’oeuvres including vegan, meat, gluten-free and sweet dishes are served on “naked food platters” or to be more blunt, people sans clothes lying very still while you sample the delicacies. In addition to the feast, enjoy a performance of the Atlantis puppet opera, an oyster bar, a large silent auction, and more. VORTEX’s award-winning scenic designer Ann Marie Gordon will be on site live painting ocean seascapes and airbrush body artist Amy Young will be there providing sea-themed body and face painting.  This eclectic event sold out last year, so get your tickets now!
